On August 29th 2017 the Galveston Police Department began an investigation in relation to a shooting that occurred near the 3800 block of Sealy during Hurricane Harvey.

Up to 10 possible suspects were wanted for questioning as a result of a criminal episode that began with a burglary and lead to thefts at a local convenience store. The incident concluded with suspects shooting at the victims of the crimes. These crimes occurred during daylight hours when the Island was at its peak of flood waters from Hurricane Harvey.

An intense investigation continued which resulted in criminal charges against Jemarcus Lee Simmons (22) of Hitchcock, Texas. After the evidence was reviewed by Investigators and members of the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, three (3) warrants for the arrest of Simmons were issued.

On October 10th 2017, Simmons was arrested near the 3900 block of Winnie for all active warrants in this case. Simmons is accused of two counts of Aggravated Assault stemming from the shooting investigation and one count of Robbery, which occurred in the 3800 block of Broadway just before the shooting incident.

Simmons had a suggested bond of $100,000 for each count of Aggravated Assault and $50,000 bond for the Robbery Charge.
